One of the oldest and most complex of cultures among the countries of the world, the Chinese way is a very interesting aspect of the country. Traditional Chinese, although originating from the same land, remains as some form of hybrid way of life. This is due to the variations in the beliefs and traditions of each of its region. Nevertheless, the core values of the country remain to be family, courtesy, and love for peace and harmony. Even the country's literature, like the famed Four Books of Confucianism, shows the importance of these values to the Chinese people.
As with the people of Hong Kong, Chinese people are also inclined to superstitious beliefs and peculiar traditions. One of the most popular old traditions is foot binding. This refers to an act of preventing the growth of a girl's feet by making her wear tiny specially-made shoes resulting to the extremely tiny lotus feet. The practice is based on the belief that having small feet is a sign of wealth. Another tradition still being practiced to this by all Chinese around the world is the celebration of the Chinese New Year, the legendary Duanwu Festival (Dragon Boat Festival), and the Chinese Moon Festival celebrated on the full-moon day of Mid Autumn. This a festival where families eat moon cakes together and children go out to join the spectacular lantern parade.
