The local government of Beijing has placed several houses in the vicinity under protection. These houses were the former homes of famous people, one such home is the former residence of Song Qingling. Song was the wife of Dr. Sun Yatsen, the founder of the Republic of China. Song was a great advocate of democracy, freedom and civil rights. After her husband passed away, she supported the Communist Party which granted her the status of honorary President of the People's Republic. Visitors going into the Song Qingling's former residence will find that the furniture and the items in the house were left as they were.
