Most of the islands in the Caribbean are fairly safe. The people are very congenial and welcoming. However, there are still things that visitors should remember when coming to the island.
Diseases
Because of the tropical climate in most of the islands, tropical illnesses like dengue and malaria are rampant. Mosquitoes carrying the virus of these diseases abound in the tropical forests. Thus, all incoming foreigners are required vaccination before entry, and upon coming mosquito or insect repellants are suggested to be carried around.
Shrubbery and Sea creatures
Aside from the diseases that may be acquired in coming to the islands, things which travelers should look out for in visiting the Caribbean are the sea creatures and the shrubbery. There are plants growing in some of the islands which are pleasant to look at but are actually dangerous. Tourists must keep in mind that not just because they look innocent, they truly are. Some are actually poisonous.
The same goes with the beautiful marine animals like cute urchins. These are quiet creatures sitting on the bottom of shallow waters. Unfortunately, when stepped on, the spines of these animals sting badly. Some are even poisonous.
Petty Crimes
Besides the diseases and the animals, there are a few things to worry about when coming to the Caribbean. Tourists are warned about the petty crimes like theft, robbery, and extortion in which they may fall victim.
