The Silver Pagoda is part of the building complex known as the Royal Palace where the Royal Family lived. This remarkable building is said to be the only place that the Khmer Rouge didn't completely destroy, which is a good thing. Using over 5,000 silver tiles, visitors will literally walk on silver while in the pagoda, hence the name. Aside from the fact that the building has a marvelous architectural design, it is also home to several priceless Buddha sculptures. Among these is the Emerald Buddha (which is actually made out of a type of jade) as well as a 90 kg statue of Buddha which is made completely out of gold and is studded with 9,584 diamonds. Taking pictures in the Silver Pagoda is strictly prohibited, so it is better not to pay for the ticket to bring one in.
