Due to the abundance of wild animals and the localities' desire to preserve the wild life of the country, entry to South Africa is very strict for some countries, but for others exemptions as regard visa requirements exists. A number of countries including African Union Laissez Passer, Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Botswana, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, and Greece may enter and stay in the country for a number of days even without visa. The same is true with Iceland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg, Malta, Monaco , Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Paraguay, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Spain, St Vincent & the Grenadines, Sweden, and Switzerland. People from United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, British Islands Bailiwick of Guernsey and Jersey, Isle of Man and Virgin Islands, Republic of Ireland, British Overseas Territories, Uruguay, Venezuela, and United States of America also have exemptions. There are also provisions for exemption for citizens of the countries, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Benin, Bolivia, Cape Verde, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Gabon, Guyana, Hong Kong, Hungary, Jordan, Lesotho, Macau, Malaysia, Malawi, Maldives, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Peru, and Poland. Seychelles, Slovak Republic, South Korea, Swaziland, Thailand, Turkey, Zambia, and Zimbabwe are also on the list.
Apart from the said countries, visa will be required prior to any planned trip. To acquire it, applications may be forwarded to any South African Embassy or Consulate nearest to the residence of the traveler. Documents include a passport valid for not less than 30 days after the expiry of the intended visit and with at least one remaining visa page, a visa fee is also necessary, a vaccination certificate, letter of confirmation of purpose, two identity photographs, proof of sufficient funds, and an onward and return airline ticket. Upon submission of these documents, the paper will be in process. The applicant will have to wait for at least ten days before it is issued. The best thing to do is spend this by planning the itineraries as well as up-coming activities for the vacation.
