South Africa is known for its diversity in cultures, languages, and religious beliefs. It has Africa's largest Caucasian, Indian and racially-mixed communities. The southernmost group is composed of the Xhosa people, a society of hunter-gatherers. Most South Africans, nonetheless, have embraced Western culture, like speaking English, patronizing Western music, and making Christianity their main religion.
Since there is no single culture in this country, South African cuisine, music, and arts are also diverse. Many black musicians sing a variety of songs, but the unique style is Kwaito, or melodies rendered in traditional African languages. Kwaito has garnered attention from the world's biggest producers so many black South African artists are now getting international attention for their music.
The majority of South Africans are blacks who still live below poverty line. The middle class is composed of whites, but black and colored people are also growing in numbers. The middle class usually study abroad to get better opportunities outside of the country.
The major sports in South Africa are rugby, soccer, cricket, lawn bowls, and boxing. Basketball, skateboarding and surfing are popular among the youth. Other sports that have also gained a steady following are swimming, netball, and golf.
