The 17th century was the time Seychelles was born. It was discovered by Vasco de Gama during 1600, uninhabited and filled with pirates. However, it was claimed by France as a French colony included in the territory of Mauritius. Only in the 1970s did Seychelles receive independence from the French. The very first president was James Mancham, overthrown by France Albert Rene.
Albert's reign lasted for 27 years. He was replaced by his vice-president James Michel. Within the 27 years of his reign, the country strived to gain funds for improvement through various means like acquisition of visa to any foreigner upon payment of 25,000 USD and a grant for immunity from any crime for anyone investing 10 million USD to the country.
