The world renowned sushi (vinegar rice), sashimi (raw seafood), and ramen (Japanese noodles) are only few of the many faces of Japanese cooking. With condiments like wasabi, a paste made from Japanese horseradish and teriyaki sauce or a lustrous broiled sauce, Nippon cuisine became one of Asia's most patronized. Many restaurants in the world created their own versions of these foods. However, nothing can rival the original. In classic sushi bars in most cities curious tourists are allowed to create their own combination of sushi or choose from the various flavors going around. On the busy streets of Otafuku in the eastern Village, visitors can grab a pack of takoyaki (fried or baked octopus) and eat it while walking. They can try Japan's version of pancake, the okonomiyaki for an outstanding gastronomic encounter.
