Original Settlers
The country's very first inhabitants were Native American people including Caribs, Arawaks, Wayana, and many others. However, as there are no written data during those days, the history of the country was begun upon the arrival of the very first European, Christopher Columbus.
The French Colonists
The French army may be considered the most persistent colonizer of this country. For about five times, they tried to conquer regions of the country, only to thrown out by other nations. Only in the 1676 did they successfully have the country.
French improvements
Upon the signing of the Treaty of Paris, the country went under complete control of France. The French government established plantations on healthy areas of the country and imported African slaves. The country flourished despite the existence of this inhuman act.
1800s
By the entry of 1800s the country experienced historical landmarks like the attack of the Portuguese, which was repelled by the signed Treaty of Paris. It was followed by the abolition of slavery and the establishment of French settlement away from the native lands. Furthermore, this was the time the country opened its doors to refugees from different countries. This resulted to the melting pot demography Guiana has.
Modern day Guiana
The 1900s ushered great improvements for the country of Guiana. This was the decade when the country acquired some of its important research establishments. More importantly, this was the decade when changes in government resulted good fortune to the country.
