Côte d'Ivoire's culture is ethnically diverse. Among the major cultural regions are East Atlantic (Akan), West Atlantic (Kru), Voltaic, and Mandé, which differ in terms of environment, language, economic activities, and overall cultural character.
An estimated 65 languages are spoken in the country and the most common is Dyula, the language of the majority population, Muslims.
About a quarter of the people live below the international poverty line.
