Southern Korea boasts of a vibrant culture comprised of many traditions, celebrations, beliefs, and values. South Koreans highly regard the values of family and Kibun (pride or face). The family is always the most important aspect of their lives. The father is the head of the family and is responsible for pretty much everything. His ancestors are greatly respected. During Chusok (Korean Thanksgiving), families prepare a feast to celebrate their ancestors. While the father is the head of the household, on the shoulders of the eldest son rests special responsibilities. Family needs are always the top priority. To be shamed as an individual is nothing compared to bringing a family shame. For this reason, Koreans are very careful and sensitive to others. Their way of communing with others is a healthy fusion of the traditional and the modern.
