What a better way to experience being a hippie for a day than visiting the place where the ‘60s counter revolution all began: the Woodstock at Bethel Woods, New York. Bethel Woods today is an enormous eco-park with lush surroundings and a number of landmarks dedicated to the Woodstock Festival of the ‘60s. Among the key areas here are as follows:

*White Lake: where hundreds of nude Woodstock attendees bathed during the festival. Today, the lake is run by the nearby Sullivan County, where you can get entrance passes to the park and also rent boats or get tickets for the picnic pavilions around the lake. The park is open every weekend, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. You can swim, grill barbecues, fish, or play volleyball or basketball here. Park membership and group rates are available.

*Bethel Woods Performing Arts Center: hosts seasonal concerts Woodstock-style. It is also the site of the Harvest Festival every Columbus Day (October 21). The Harvest Festival showcases the fresh produce of Sullivan County.

* The Museum at Bethel Woods: provides a multi-media experience combining film and interactive displays that narrate the story of Woodstock, its history and cause. For museum schedules, see www.bethelwoodscenter.org/museum/visit/admission.aspx.
