When planning a trip to Suriname, there are a few things to keep in mind. This is so the trip will remain a memorable one instead of a series of unfortunate events.
Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes are common sights in Suriname. A bite usually causes a rash, an irritation or allergy and if luck is not by one's side, the deadly malaria. Tourists are asked to be cautious about these insects. Though they are small, they can really be lethal. It is best to apply insect repellant lotions or cream, or wear a mosquito band to prevent these creatures from coming close.
Counterfeit money
There are rampant cases of acquiring counterfeit money from con artists in the city. When visiting Suriname, it is advised that all currency exchange transactions be done with a registered bank. This is to prevent getting counterfeit or fake money in exchange of one's currency.
Traffic rules
For travelers who plan to rent a vehicle upon entry to Suriname, it is advised to be extra careful while driving. Aside from terrible drivers on the street, being caught violating a traffic rule is really costly. Just driving without license is worth a million guilders. This is a huge amount in Suriname and should not be taken lightly.
