Machu Picchu is also known as the Lost City of the Incas. It is a city with a height of 8,000 feet and is in the Andes Mountains in Peru. It is located on a mountain ridge high in the Urubamba Valley. The Urubamba River flows through the Urubamba Valley. Machu Picchu is also considered as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. It is of great value to world heritage lovers as it is a site which holds connection with the Inca Empire in the past. It is located approximately 80 kilometres from Cusco, the capital of the Incas and is Peru's most visited tourist spot.
It has found favor with tourists all over the word as it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also considered as a sacred place by many. Tourists can enjoy the beauty of Machu Picchu by admiring the classical Inca style which is evident in its structure. Machu Picchu is largely composed of around 200 buildings, which include temples, storage structures and other public buildings. The most important among them are the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Room of the Three Windows. It is surrounded by scenic landscape all around it.
Tourists can visit the historical sanctuary surrounding Machu Picchu. It is an area of over 300 square kilometres around Machu Picchu. Tourists can also admire the area's wide collection of flora and fauna. The Inca Bridge, which is made up of rope, throws insight to the Incas past war strategy. The Machu Picchu site is blessed with beautiful surroundings which include valleys, mountains and springs.
The buildings in and around this historical site also show unique building design which have helped them from falling off when attacked by an earthquake. This is evident in the stones in the structures around this area which have been fit. Even the doors and windows exhibit designs to prevent damage when struck by earthquakes.
In case you love to examine the past - the temples and the flights of steps carved out of a single stone can be studied to marvel at the work abilities of the Incas. The Monumental Mausoleum shows us about the Incas past rituals. It is a carved statue which has vaulted interior and carved drawings on it.
