Macau Good to know |
Macanese cuisine is an appetizing mix of Portuguese and Chinese cooking. Their cooking techniques range from baking, grilling, to roasting. Common spices include turmeric, coconut milk, and cinnamon. An example of national dish is Galinha a Portuguesa (Portuguese Chicken). Another version of this, the Galinha a Africana is a proof of the Creole roots of some of the people in Macau. The most popular chow is pork chop bun (bread with pork chop filling). For dessert, there is the pasteis de nata (egg tarts) and ginger milk.
Aside from tasty delicacies, Macau also boasts of its own cheap and greasy tummy-fillings. In makeshift stalls around the city a tourist can buy the tasty Lo mai fan (porridge with pork dumplings), and curry fish balls to satiate a stomach call.
