More about Jordan costs
Although Jordan, home to the architectural wonder Petra, is not the cheapest country in the Middle East to travel in, backpackers with a strict budget won't have a problem getting around. Inexpensive accommodations cost around 2.00 JOD (2.82 USD) for a shared room. More comfortable budget rooms cost 5.00 JOD (7.06 USD) for a single room, 8.00 JOD (11.30 USD) for a double, and 11.00 JOD (15.54 USD) for triple. Midrange prices start at 12.00 JOD (16.95 USD) and go up to 35.00 JOD (49.43 USD). Local street food like shwarma and falafel are affordable, ranging between 1.00 JOD (1.41 USD) and 3.00 JOD (4.24 USD). Midrange restaurants charge 1.00 JOD (1.41 USD) for appetizers while main courses cost about 1.50 JOD (2.12 USD) to 2.50 JOD (3.53 USD).
Star-rated hotels overcharge for their foods, so it's more practical to eat in places frequented by locals. Even the average Jordanian cannot afford to eat hotel meals. Getting around is very affordable; expect to pay 1.00 JOD (1.41 USD) an hour for a long distance private bus. Travelling to Jordan is easy on the budget, as long as you're not targeting high end meals or accommodations.
