The Vietnam War has inflicted permanent scars in history and probably the greatest remnant of the horrid conflict is the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ in short). Located north of Hue, the demarcation area separates the Northern territory from that of the South. The DMZ has witnessed numerous battles from the two disputing regions, and the lingering terror of victims eternally forms a part of this dreadful page in history. Chilling as it may be, this fact only adds up to the Zone's popularity: Vietnamese and Westerners alike flock to verify the names of their dead.
The DMZ is surrounded by other historically significant attractions, such as the military sites on Highway 9, where the Americans plotted their men to ambush the supplies going through the Ho Chi Minh Trail, North Vietnam's main supply artery. Going to the infamous Khe Sanh Combat Base, one might hesitate to believe that the area was venue to one of the bloodiest battles of the war. Sitting atop a bare plateau, one will behold verdant fields and rolling fog hiding its morbid past. A memorial full of wartime photos and relics is recently built in the site.
