Bac Lieu serves as a launch pad to the other interesting destinations. Crumbling French colonial buildings and the thriving longan orchards make it as a charming destination that is also worth a visit. The considerable distance from the sea front does not hinder the town from relying on the waters as one of their primary sources of livelihood. Bac Lieu is known for their salt industry and fishing, as farming around town is not a very good option because of the water's salinity. South of town is the Bac Lieu Bird Sanctuary, home to over 50 species of birds. The road to the conservation facility may be rough, but seeing the birds in their full splendor makes up for it.
