Bursa holds an inexplicable charisma that enthralls not only regular visitors but also the most influential women in history - for instance, the Byzantine Empress Theodora. Indeed, Bursa offers more than a rejuvenating Turkish bath; it also has a fair share of other riches that visitors might want to explore such as its remarkable royal catacombs, its ornately designed mosques and its regal museums housing troves of cultural treasures.
Though the last decades have been hostile to Bursa due to the sudden surge of its metal and textile industries, it still retains the peculiar charm to lure visitors from different corners of the globe. Backed by the gentle slopes of the Great Ulundag Mountain, Bursa was dubbed as the cradle of modern Turkish culture attracting thousands of visitors annually. The curiosity and persistence of travelers to discover the true worth of Bursa is evident.
Mosques such as Emir Sultan Cammi echo the dreamy excesses of the Ottoman Empire with its rich inlaid curves and arches while the Ulu Cami is proud of its daunting turrets jutting out of the city. The Yesil Cammi, on the other hand, showcases its Persian style with its neatly carved marble work and exquisite façade. Moreover, the eye-catching Yesil Turbe is sure to astound visitors with its richly mihhrab tiled calligraphy along with the lavishly decorated tomb of Mehmet I.
The royal tombs such as the Sarcophagus of Sultan Murat I, Sultan II Murat Camii and the Tombs of Sultans Osman and Orhan are also great detours besides the famous Turkish baths speckled around Bursa like the newly refurbished Eski Kapl%u0131ca and the Yeni Kaplica.
Other points of interest include the scenic Irgandi Bridge where visitors can find innumerable unique yellow shops selling local handicrafts and other curio. So the Atatürk House could be a convenient place for an afternoon stroll.
Culture and history buffs might also want to drop by at the many museums around Bursa such as the Ottoman House Museum, the City Museum, the Tofas Museum of Anatolian Carriages and Ulumay Museum of Ottoman Folk Costumes & Jewelry - all of which are great venues for picnics and landscape photography if one is an enthusiast.
