One of Turkey's important capitals is perched in a conical hill overlooking the expanse of the surrounding valley. This capital is Bergama or Pergamum, famous for housing the country's most prominent archeological sites like the Asklepion and the Pergamum's Acropolis, which are among those chosen to grace the top 100 historical sites of the Mediterranean. Often described as the most illustrious city for its impressive town planning, Bergama today is a hub for trade and commerce due to the popularity of its carpets made by the local Yoruk craftsmen.
Nestled northwest of Anatolia near the Aegean Sea, Bergama is filled with traditional Ottoman houses, mosques, temples, and a mausoleum that are notable for their majesty and strength. Among these are Red Basilica or the Temple of Serapis l, the Akropol, Allianoe, and the Zeus Altar, which lie side-by-side to the town's archeology museum.
Another spot that could be worthy of exploration is Caicus River Valley, from which tourists may ride a river boat and pass though the towns of Cetiius and Selinus. From the valley, travelers can also join road trips to Sardis or to Thayatira.
Those who wish to experience the hospitality of a Turkish bath can head to the Ascelepion to pamper one's self with massages, rubs, and mud baths, which can be done while one's dreams or future are being analyzed and foretold by Turkish palm readers and clairvoyants.
