A town of concrete and automobiles in the middle of a wilderness, Loei serves as one of the few reminders of modern civilization in its namesake province. Popular only as a travel base for tourists off to see the sights of the surrounding countryside, Loei has few amenities to offer tourists, mainly hotel accommodations and needed supplies sold in bustling night markets. Probably its saving grace is the vibrant and jovial Cotton Blossom Festival wherein cotton-themed parades troll along the streets, accompanied by continuous merry-making, an event that happens in January.
