Used as a former vacationing spot by the famous King Chulalongkorn of Thailand, Ko Si Chang is a quaint resort island nestled just off the coast of the Chonburi Province. Although not the most beautiful of destinations, its relative proximity to the capital Bangkok (about 100 km.) makes it very much appealing to casual tourists who don't want to venture far out into the unknown.
Visitors are encouraged to pay a visit to the abandoned royal summer palace called the Judhadhut Palace. It boasts of rich cultural and historical heritage, such as a few Chinese and Thai-influenced temples and monasteries, the most notable being Asdangkhanimit Temple whose conical white structure is seen on top of a hill.
Those who want to meditate can visit Wat Tham Yaai Prik and arrange for an overnight stay to have a glimpse of monastic life. The Tham Chakrabongse Meditation Center, popular with it three huge Buddha images, also provides the place to spiritually recharge. Taking a refreshing dip in the turquoise waters and then lying lazily on the golden sands also provides relaxation, albeit the more mundane type.
