Bo Sang and Sam Kamphaeng, located in the outskirts of the Chiang Mai Province of northern Thailand, have the reputation of being the favorite haunts of travelers looking for souvenirs to take home and give as gifts to friends and family. Affectionately called the "Umbrella Village," Bo Sang made its claim to fame with its unique, brightly colored and decorated umbrellas that are crafted exclusively by hand. In fact, the locals annually hold the Bo Sang Umbrella Festival, an affair dedicated to honoring their umbrella-making tradition. A short distance away lies San Kamphaeng, labeled as the "Handicraft Highway," which serves as a haven for silk and cotton craft lovers. Shops that line the road sell plenty of ceramic and Antique pieces. It is rare for tourists visiting Bo Sang and Sam Kamphaeng to emerge with empty hands.
