Southern Taiwan Travel Guide
Taiwan's southern region offers a laid-back retreat away from the chaotic cities up north. Teeming with a well-preserved culture and rustic charm, as well as a spectacular spread of neighboring mountains and water bodies, the rural settlements range from bustling harbor towns to lethargic aboriginal villages.
An ideal kick-off is by savoring nature's splendor in Kenting National Park, popular all over the country for its wide array of flora and fauna. Afterwards, one can head out to Chiayi, known for its collection of busy market streets and pieces of historic architecture. Another interesting site worth a visit is Tainan's impressive sprawl of olden temples. Those who would rather seek out offbeat destinations can go to the port city Taitung and then sail to the ethnic paradise called Orchid Island, Taiwan's last frontier to the south.
