The Glossary
Surfers lurk the on shores of Ahangama & Midigama in search of some of the best waves in Sri Lanka. Home to the distinctive fishing technique called silt fishing, it rewards visitors not only with spectacular swells and breaks but also a beautiful view of the sunset as it looms in the horizon.
Other than the good surfing points and places, Aganhama houses the Mahavihara Temple known for its murals and frescoes. Nearby is the Midigama Monastery which served as a refuge for the victim of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami which claim the lives of many inhabitants along the coast of Aganhama and Midigama.
Today, not much of Ahangama and Midigama has changed. Monks in crimson red robes are still seen walking around the area as the small vibrant market offers a good subject for quick photo opportunity with its chock full of stalls and shops selling fresh pineapples, clothes and sarongs by Sri Lankan ladies with huge smiles and red flowers in their hair.
