An artificial bay found by the southern tip of Singapore, Marina Bay burst into the spotlight in 2008 when it played host to the prestigious Singapore Grand Prix - the first time ever that a Formula One race was staged at nighttime, lit up by floodlights.
Built on a vast 360-hectare of reclaimed land, it is, in essence, a veritable open park area that boasts of commercial development and lifestyle hubs. Marina Bay, in fact, is being prepped up by the Singaporean government as the next big superstar of the country's tourist scene.
Probably the highlight of any visit to Marina Bay is the artistically-designed Marina City Park, where one can bask in the ambiance of its relaxed and laid-back atmosphere. A large two-tiered pond has a fountain that shoots water more than 18 meters into the sky. Sculptures of eight revered Chinese heroes adorn the place, chief of them is the great Confucius.
Marina Bay is also a haven for the avid bowlers, with its excellent bowling centers. Outside, one can fly kites in the windy open fields. With lots of development and construction underway in the area, the future does look promising for Marina Bay.
