The Palolo Deep Marine Reserve is one of Samoa's prime attractions, surprising tourists from around the world. The azure depths and the vibrant marine life make this conservation facility a snorkeler's fantastic haven. Above the reefs is a long sliver of white sand lining the northern coast. The Reserve is a mere ten-minute walk east of Apia Wharf.
After strapping on the snorkeling gear, tourists can head out to the atoll and see Nature's own art gallery of corals and other aquatic life in the blue hole (vertical cave) called the Palolo Deep. These organisms co-exist peacefully as one marine community. This unbelievably beautiful spectacle continues to fascinate visitors and researchers alike. The Deep is best visited during the high tide and, of course, with proper gear and basic training. After an afternoon out in the waters, one can arrange a picnic by the immaculate shores and then lie under the clear tropical sky until the sun descends to the horizon. The scenery outsmarts anything that exists in the movies, and you will gladly confess that it is real.
