More about Russia costs
Russia's national currency is the rouble (RUB). The rouble comes in denominations of 10.00 RUB (0.33 USD), 50.00 RUB (1.66 USD), 100.00 RUB (3.32 USD), 500.00 RUB (16.61 USD), 1,000.00 RUB (33.22 USD), and 5,000.00 RUB (166.11 USD). When exchanging them in Euros or US dollars, be sure they are in good condition; otherwise these will be refused. Museums and sightseeing areas only accept cash. Museums also charge for bringing in cameras and video recorders. Sometimes swindlers attach spy devices to street ATMs, giving them access to your PIN and card details. The safest ATMs are in large shopping centers, banks, and hotels.
Budget accommodations are difficult to find in Russia. However, you can negotiate for a one night stay in a student dormitory (called obshezhytie) for about 200.00 RUB (6.64 USD) to 250.00 RUB (8.31 USD). Educational institutions also offer four-bedroom accommodations for about 150.00 RUB (4.98 USD) to 300.00 RUB (9.97 USD). Low-priced hotels charge between 400.00 RUB (13.29 USD) and 700.00 RUB (23.26 USD) for a double room. The cheapest prices are in the smaller cities while more expensive are expectedly in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
