Meneng Travel Guide
The southeast district of Meneng is near Anibare Bay, the best place to swim and surf in Nauru. One of the country's only two hotels is also in Meneng. This government-owned hotel that overlooks Anibare Bay is the classiest one can get in Nauru. The large bay of Anibare is favored by tourists and naturalists because of its white-sand beach made of pulverized corals. The tropical heat is countered by the cool, Pacific breeze. Large rock formations dot the coastline, attracting the visitors. Sometimes, however, the frequent heavy surf and rip currents can pose some serious dangerous to swimmers.
Close to Anibare Bay is the Anibare Harbor, an artificial commercial fishing area where traditional fishing is a national sport. As birds return after foraging at sea, fishers catch these birds using a lasso with a weight at the end. After listening to the waves' melody, travelers can head to the convention centers to enjoy Nauruan music, dance, and theater. They happen to be the country's most popular art forms and one of their attractions is that they pay homage to their Polynesian roots.
