Regarded as one of the best seafronts on the Moroccan coast, Essaouira is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for being the 18th-century town of Mogador. Although separated from other cities in western Morocco, Essaouira is one of the country's most famous cities being flocked by European holidaymakers who are on the lookout for a secluded spot to enjoy the Moroccan beach and sun.
More than just for swimming, the waters of Île de Mogador are ideal for kite surfing and windsurfing. The island names its best spots as Essaouira Bay, Cape Sim and Sidi Kaouki, which can be navigated via a camel ride.
At the town's center, visitors can find hundreds of shops selling all kinds of knickknacks—from inlaid boxes to native woodworks and lacquer ware. Nearby is Diabat, whose claim to fame is a rundown Berber village and the ruins of a house used by American rock star Jimi Hendrix.
