After being established by the Phoenicians, Ceuta or Sebta underwent through a series of invasions, starting from the Romans, then by the Vandals, the Visigoths, the Arabs, the Portuguese, and most recently, by Spain and Morocco, which are both claiming custody over the city. It was not until the ‘90s that Ceuta earned its autonomy as a city, and today features a tranquil Euro-African atmosphere through its quaint cafés and bars that dot the landscape.
There are a lot of cultural and historical heritage sites around including the City Walls, which is an example of a fortification built during the Middle Ages. In addition, the city is plentiful in museums and archeological sites like the Museo de los Muralles Reales, the Museo Municipal, and the Museo de la Legión. There is also a 17th century convent called Ermita de San Antonio, which gives a panorama of Ceuta from a bird's eye view.
Jutting out in the skies like Ceuta's skylines are the Pillars of Hercules, the main feature of the surrounding Musa Mountain.
