Getting to this corner of the country is like earning a VIP pass to the high and mighty Atlas Mountain. On the way one can pass through the surreal terrain of Todra and Tinerhir, the deep canyons of the Drâa Valley replete with the dunes and ergs of Merzouga, the colorful souks of Marrakesh and the sophisticated French city of Zagora.
The prime attraction is that the coastline of Central Morocco is home to high-quality waves. Here, surfers can experience one wild ride to the best breaks found in the region or get exposed to some reef action by diving into the depths of the sea.
However, if the waves don't swell, there are other things to do in Central Morocco, starting from a camel ride to Merzouga where visitors can have the great chance to navigate the stunning chain of dunes or to see the romantic Moroccan sunset that quickly changes color from pale pink to gold and then to a pervading dark red.
Another possible detour is the verdant valley of Tinerhir, a convenient spot for visitors to spend lazy afternoons or one of the Berber villages. From here they can also get the scenic view of the pink canyons of the Todra Gorge which offer the best spectacle in the early morning.
From Todra, they can continue their highland odyssey to the dreamlike landscape of Drâa Valley renowned for its multihued palmeraies, sprawling orchards and red-earth fortifications or Kasbah's. There is also the Atlas Mountain, which is the highest in North Africa, challenging the intrepid trekkers to conquer its daunting summit.
After the trek, they can get to the oasis town of Zagora to cool off for a while before continuing to stroll around the ancient walled city of Marrakesh for a couple of hours checking out the open-air markets or souks and finding amazing goods like leather wear, swords, knives, pottery, carpets and even snake charmers.
Traversing the dimly lit labyrinth of stalls, they can also get all types of Moroccan food and drinks such as the ubiquitous couscous, slabs of lamb meats, beef tangine and green tea with mint.
