Lundu's name was believed to originate from the schools of catfish that abound in the Sungai Lundu which flows down from the Gunung Gading National Park. It is inhabited mostly by the Ibans, Balau and Dayak tribes. At present, the longhouses still exist, hidden by the coconut palm trees, with boats moored at the riverbank signifying their presence.
Lundu, however, doesn't only boast of its ethnic identity but also takes pride for its unspoilt beaches (Pandan and Siar), and the Rafflesia Monument which attract a good number of visitors who stay for a day or two in the little huts of this quiet small town.
