Kota Kinabalu is a bustling, classic Malay city and the colorful gateway to Sabah. Formerly known as Jesselton, Kota Kinabalu is now affectionately called KK by its inhabitants. It is nestled on the West Coast with the backdrop of the majestic Mount Kinabalu and on the fringes of the South China Sea.
KK has quite a number of places of interest and it is frequently dubbed as a hotspot destination for foreigners as well as locals. Visitors can find the international airport, hotels and numerous restaurants and shopping malls amid the tightly packed streets of cafes locally known as kedai kopi along the main artery of Kota Kinabalu. No wonder it is referred to as city of interesting contrasts.
The crowning glory of Kota Kinabalu is Mount Kinabalu, the tallest mountain in Southeast Asia. Its ranges and gorges are perfect for trekking and cave exploration. The vast jungle of Kota Kinabalu can be a great sanctuary for visitors to admire the Rafflesia, the largest flower in the world known for its distinct smell, which is said to be more repulsive than a carcass in an advanced stage of decomposition.
The beguiling Tanjung Aru will surely beckon tourists to swim or simply lie idly all day on its pure white sand under the bright blue skies. However, to those who fancy some excellent setting for extreme water sports activities, Tunku Abdul Rahaman Park can be a good starting ground, be it whitewater rafting or snorkeling or adventurous jungle trek to the nearby Manukan, Gaya and Sapi Islands.
After a long day of worthwhile exploration, visitors, especially those who are interested in cultural traditions, should allot time to venture into the interiors of Kota Kinabalu to visit its traditional longhouses in order to experience the century-old festive celebration, or you can check out the tamu, the local market place.

Two maroon colored majestic balloons awaited ... Read full Blog post
