Liechtenstein’s official currency is the Swiss Franc (CHF). Prices here are similar or the same as Switzerland. This makes a visit to Liechtenstein more expensive compared to other European countries. Visitors to Liechtenstein crossing from Austria require a vignette, which costs 8.75 EUR (12.56 USD) for ten days, 22.05 EUR (31.65 USD) for 2 months, and 73.75 EUR (105.85 USD) for a whole year.
There are very few hotels in the country and most of them charge expensive rates. Backpack travelers can stay in the only hostel located in Schaan, which is off limits in the winter. There’s also the Gasthaus Krone, a family run hotel and restaurant that offers very affordable room rates. Another economical place to stay in is the Camping Mittagspitz, which offers quality facilities and an affordable restaurant.
