Cradled in Northern Laos' jagged terrain and lush greenery, Luang Nam Tha is an ideal breather after all the thrill of trekking through the nearby Nam Ha NPA. The town and the province share the same name, and for a good reason: Luang Nam Tha is the mountainous county's prime settlement and houses most of the local attractions. The town proper features rice paddies cultivated by the various ethnic groups residing nearby. As part of the modernization attempts of the government, the place has also developed commercial establishments, offering internet connection, good lodging options, and a wide variety of eating places.
Walking around Luang Nam Tha reveals that the city is more than just a stopover to and from the northern mountains. Luang Nam Tha Museum reflects the rich culture of the early inhabitants with its numerous artifacts. The nearby ethnic villages such as Ban Pa Sak (known for their Thai Dam silk-weaving) and Ban Nam Di (a good place to learn authentic bamboo paper-making) give a closer view of the natives' lifestyle and culture.
