Osh Travel Guide
Reputedly older than Rome, Osh sadly hasn't caught up with the times and remains a backwater on this side of the Kyrgyzstan. It continues to be the same venue where local shepherds, and horse and goat-herders congregate, something that you may catch a sight of if you sit, or so they say, on left side of the bus. Nestled at the southern tip of Kyrgyzstan, Osh, at 29.2 square kilometers of land, is the second largest city east of Ferghana Valley.
If China has its perennial night market, Kyrgyzstan has it too. Osh market, right in front of the bank of Ak Buura River, brims with a mile-long stretch of stalls selling handicrafts, carpets, jewelry and felt hats, a specialty of the region. The market serves as the vital center of the community: locals trade their goods, commune with the other locals, and amuse themselves here. It exemplifies how a nomadic way of life works.
Accounts assert that Osh may have been founded by King Solomon or Alexander the Great. No one disputes, however, that Osh is one among the ancient trading routes. Signs of progress come in the shape of the largest cotton industrial complex of Central Asia, metal working and woodworking industries.
Those insisting to look for a "tourist spot" can check out the Osh United History and Culture Museum Reserve where one can see a lot of exhibits from petro glyphs to inscriptions of the Sulaiman and Ak-Bura fortress. If that won't work, the mountain view can more than make up for a discovery.
