Mount Fuji Travel Guide
A snow-capped titan overlooking its surrounding forests, elevations, and the majority of Shizuoka Prefecture, Mount Fuji is one of Japan's essential icons. With the height of 3,776 meters, it is Japan's premier natural attraction, earning the widespread reputation of being a "Holy Mountain" and as one of the country's most photographed landscapes. Apart from the yamabushi (hermits) that take pilgrimages to Mt. Fuji's rugged terrain, hiking aficionados also flock to this domineering giant to earn the bragging rights of conquering it.
Those who would not like to scale Mt. Fuji may want to settle looking at the sleeping colossus from its base, where the Fuji Five Lakes, a collection of coves, barricade Mt. Fuji. The five lakes are ideal vantage points and camping grounds for onlookers. More than that, they also feature life-strewn forests, remote streams, and diverse wildlife.
