When it comes to fashion, culture, history and business, Milan definitely has it all. Providing both modern and traditional attractions, there literally is something for everyone to enjoy in Italy's largest city.
When you think about Milan, there is something quite romantic about the city which really draws you in. That is mainly due to the culture that is found all around. All throughout Milan you will find a number of ancient, magnificent buildings. The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is an excellent example of Milan's fantastic architecture. Originally designed to link to the Opera House, the arcade is now used mainly as a hangout with exclusive shops and tasteful cafe's situated within. It really has a wow effect, as do all of the cities buildings.
You can spend hours walking around feeling in awe of the magnificent architecture. Something else that you will discover is that there are so many new things to be discovered. For example, you get to taste exciting new foods such as pasta sauces made with coffee. You also get to purchase household appliances that have been created using basketry. The products you find are definitely unique!
Historically, Milan has an interesting background. In 400BC the Romans conquered the city. A number of centuries went by under Roman control before the city was finally named the capital of the Western Roman Empire. It wasn't until the Middle Ages that Milan started to really come into its own. Throughout the Middle Ages the city became well known for its trade connections. In 1450, Francesco Sforza conquered the city and that in turn caused Milan to be one of the main cities in the Italian Renaissance. Fast-forward to the 20th century and the city held a refugee camp for all Jews who were fleeing from Austria. So many things have happened that mark how the city is today and that is why many people choose to visit Milan.
Overall Milan really does have something for everyone. There is so much to see and do and the shopping within the city is particularly good too. No matter what you are looking for you will find it within one of the city's exclusive shops. There is something to suit all budgets too; so it doesn't matter whether you are looking for luxury or if you want a more affordable vacation.
