Cibodas and Cianjur Travel Guide
Not only Cibodas and Cianjur are the rice baskets of Java. They too are a basket full of delights for the nature lover. These towns are some of the nearest adventure treks to major cities such as Bandung and the country's capital, Jakarta. Cibodas is the base of the elevated Kebun Raya Cibodas, a lush and landscaped national park and botanical gardens originally created in 1860 and now serve as home to over a thousand species and millions of potted plants for sale. Beside the gardens is Mount Gede Pangrango National Park, where eco-tourists may stay in huts for weeks and be part of some of the most important biological and conservation researches in the last century. The park contains a large population of species known to grow only in its soil. These include Stink Badgers and White-bellied Fantails.
Cibodas and Cianjur are surrounded by a thick tropical jungle on the slopes of the twin peaks Gunung Gede and Gunung Pangrango. This jungle has plenty of scenic hiking trails leading to invigorating waterfalls and hot springs. One of the longest routes point to Mount Gede's far-stretching desert, caldera, and a vast pasture of dainty Javanese Edelweiss.
