Known as the "village of service" and Mahatma Gandhi's ashram (place of hermitage), Sevagram is a history-steeped settlement filled with tranquility and structures that celebrate the "Father of India," his efforts, and the time he spent there. Back in 1920, it is in Sevagram that Gandhi gave birth to the country's Non-Cooperative Movement to urge locals to practice civil disobedience and non-violence against the British rule.
Today, the houses where Mahatma lived are still masterfully preserved as a reminder of the efforts done by the "Great Soul." The houses also display artifacts, including the toilet and the walking stick Gandhi used.
