More about Greece costs
After adopting the euro as its currency, prices in Greece have skyrocketed. Inflation is most notable for food and accommodation prices. The cheapest way to travel is going solo, costing about 45.00 EUR (64.58 USD) a day. This small budget requires camping out or renting hostel rooms, hitch hiking, and rarely eating in restaurants. A single room accommodation, restaurant dining, and sightseeing costs 90.00 EUR (129.17 USD) a day. The more comfortable hotels and classy restaurants will cost about 130.00 EUR (186.58 USD) daily. Couples or group travelers will spend less splitting these midrange and privileged costs.
Rates are much cheaper during the off peak seasons from May to June and September to October. Large groups or families should look for self-catering apartments and cook their own food from supermarkets or local produce markets to spend less for their Greece vacation. Don't even attempt to bargain for prices as the Greeks consider it impolite.
