Frankfurt, which is the financial centre of Germany, is situated in the south-western part of this country. It is also referred as Frankfurt am Main in the German language. It is a lovely city which has a certain number of high-rise skyscrapers. It has a good blend of culture and modernity. Those who love to shop should head for the Zeil, which is Frankfurt's most important shopping street. A walk down this street is the best option as it is a pedestrian-only area. It is connected with two large plazas, Hauptwache in the west and Konstablerwache in the east.
Opera history buffs can take an interest in the Old Opera House, which was built in 1880, later damaged in World War II, and then fully reconstructed in 1981. Frankfurt is well-known for its fairs and festivals. The Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung, which is considered as the world's largest motor show should not be missed by car enthusiasts. Finally, Frankfurter Buchmesse - the world's largest book fair too is held in Frankfurt.
