Mention of Paris brings vivid imagery to mind. Paris stands for eternal pleasure that stems from its passion for art and culture, and for grace that flows from its passion for fashion. In short, Paris is beauty. Acclaimed as the fashion and cultural nerve center of the world, Paris is also the capital of France. It sits in northern France on the banks of River Seine. History of Paris dates back to pre-Christian era. It was occupied by Romans in 52 BC, and their influence still remains visible in the city's architecture. Paris has the pride of being an important seat of industrial revolution, which shaped our civilization in which we live today.
Tour Eiffel (the Eiffel Tower) and Notre Dame are famous landmarks of Paris, a city celebrated for its elegant monuments. The Eiffel Tower is 10,000 tons and 324 meters high three level structure built by Gustave Eiffel in 1889. The fist level, at 95 meters, has souvenir shops. Jules Verne restaurant on the second level offers mouth watering cuisines and dining opportunities at a height of 125 meters. The third level offers a 360 degree panoramic view of Paris. The Notre Dame, an elegant example of Gothic architecture, was built in 14th Century. The magic of this cathedral, standing tall at 90 meters and richly adorned with stone filigree, takes its visitors back to heady days of middle ages.
In addition to the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame, there are endless list of monuments to visit in Paris. These include the Arc de Triomphe and Grande Arche de la Defense, among others. Paris is the cultural capital of the world, so a vacation in Paris will be incomplete without a visit to its museums. Great artistes of all ages, Leonardo da Vinci, Picasso, Raphael, Delacroix, Monet, Rodin and all are represented here. The Jacquemart-Andre museum, housed in a splendid old mansion, presents mainly French, Dutch and Italian collections. The Musee des Arts Decoratifs showcases decorative arts from middle age to present day. Musee Grevin, Musee Du Moyen Age and Chateau de Vaux le Vicomte are also among notable museums of Paris.
Paris is also the Fashion capital of the world. Expectedly, there are numerous malls where you can shop for clothes, shoes and accessories of the latest fashion trend. The boulevard Haussmann is popular among tourists. So are stores on rue de Rivoli, Frenchcorner, La Mode Le Club and La Valle Village.
