Tiagba Travel Guide
Often termed the pride of the Western Coast, the stilt town of Tiagba is a prime tourist spot for those craving to try the booming aquatic sports of Ébrié Lagoon. Many travelers exploring the seaside destinations of the Lagunes Region stop awhile at this lakeside community for a leisurely pirogue (canoe) on its lagoon, a snapshot of its bathing buffaloes, or an overnight stay at one of its traditional houses built on stilts. For its sheer simplicity and sincere African provincial character, Tiagba is a world apart from the nearby, skyscraper-studded city of Abidjan.
Surrounded by lush low hills and deeply varying fruit plantations, Tiagba is just a short bus trip away from the surfing Mecca of Sassandra, the rejuvenating rainforest of Parc National d'Assagny, the hiking trails of Parc du Banco, and the safari commune of Parc National de Taï, a UNESCO World Heritage Site jam-packed with endangered species and exotic animals such as panthers, chimpanzees, and pygmy hippopotamuses.
Naturally, fishing is the villagers' way of life at Tiagba. They have even elevated it into an art form. They deep-dive into the lagoon to catch anglers, which they usually serve freshly-grilled to tourists craving for a power lunch before marking a new day for exploration.
