From textiles to butterflies, Man is a colorful market town filled with a myriad of surprises for revelers, shopaholics and adventurers. Home to Fêtes des Masques (Festival of Masks) or Côte d'Ivoire's biggest and most famous festival, Man displays a bright and breezy attitude far removed from its history as a hostage of a notorious rebel group. Live performances, enchanting African music, and eerie street masquerades typify the Fêtes des Masques every November. Villagers compete for the title of "Best Dancer," while craftsmen pay homage to forest spirits through depicting them in intricate wooden masks.
Those who cannot catch the festival can pay a reasonable amount to see live dances at Bloé, where girls wearing old Goua masks perform a Yacouba bop. Diourouzon is among the areas where Man's popular child-juggling is presented, although the acrobatics is not as perilous as it seems at first since the children are caught with both arms.
The Doyagouinē neighborhood also exhibits a festive mood with its gaudy nightlife, while the central market sells endless collections of Dan or Yacouba masks, along with a large assortment of vibrant Yacouba fabrics with geometric designs.
Man is known as the "Town of 18 Mountains," but of all elevations, La Dent de Man (The Tooth of Man) is the most special among hikers due to its molar shape and trail that starts from Zobale village. West of the town is the waterfall La Cascade, well-known for its rejuvenating waters, bamboo forest, as well as colorful dragonflies and butterflies.
Man is also Côte d'Ivoire's largest coffee manufacturer. Apart from the very tasty coffee, maquis or small, open-air restaurants serve unique African ala carte like kedjenou (sauced chicken and vegetables) for main course, and pastries and attiéké (grated cassava) for side dish. Small hotels with modern facilities serve the area. Buses and taxis come and go from the town to take people to larger cities such as Abidjan and Yamoussoukro.
