A town in Granadilla de Abona, El Medano is not strong in world-class hotels and amenities but its winds are mighty enough to lure hordes of kite boarders, windsurfers, and parasailing enthusiasts. Even though it is the longest beach on the island of Tenerife, it is dabbed with a laidback bohemian charm.
Located on a small bay, El Medano has a lengthy wooden boardwalk, which is ideal for evening strolls. In the morning and afternoons, the dominating sight is the La Montaña Roja or Red Mountain, the town's highest peak with a volcanic cone and a natural preserve.
Near the town is the Cave of Hermano Pedro, a shrine dedicated to the Canaries' first Catholic Saint. Hermano Pedro is also nicknamed the "Saint Francis of the Americas."
