Used to be dense jungle in the backwaters of Oddar Meachey, Samraong is slowly regaining its balance from its murky past due to a decade-long war and isolation brought about by the Khmer Rouge civil war. It has little to offer to tourists except perhaps a respite from the trips to the other Cambodian destinations. It has a waterfall called Cam Pe which offers a contemplative atmosphere. The Tamu House, the other important place, once served as a major stronghold of the Khmer Rouge, readily giving a visitor an insight on how brutal the Pol Pot regime was.
