The Glossary
Though Kratie may not have stunning stupas (mound-like structures that contain Buddhist relics) or the intricate bas-relief of ancient Angkorian ruins found in other Cambodian towns, it does, however, clutch a veritable number of alternative attractions that will suit those in search of pure adventure. The laidback atmosphere of this remote town is the very reason why backpackers and "first-timers" pour annually to this place to explore its beautiful river front and watch its marvelous sunsets.
The sprawling line of trees with bright red flowers growing along the backwaters of Kratie adds warmth to Kratie, enticing visitors to walk further to see some hidden gems of the town such as the nifty temple of Phonom Sombok, the Krati Monastery and the Laotian style of Wat Roka Kandal.
A museum and a playground are located in the northern part of the town, providing a good way to start a leisurely afternoon walk while appreciating the rich heritage of the French-era architecture of the provincial administrative buildings. Visitors can spend some joyful moments watching the playful and witty dolphins at the Kampi Village. Another interesting and popular activity is bird-watching.
