Kompong Chhnang Travel Guide
Kompong Chhnang, though not exactly the town that inspired Charles Dickens to write A Tale of Two Cities, still captures the vivid Dickensian imagination. Nestled in the fertile heart of a bustling harbor in Cambodia, the town is known for its floating villages along the marshy bank of Lake Tonle Sap which offers a year-round bountiful harvest to the local fishermen.
The several colonial buildings in Kompong Chhnang may not be as ornate and majestic as those in Batttambang and Kratie, but they are fascinating enough to attract a brief stay. Visitors can stroll around the town to get a closer view of the life of the people. Getting into the fisherman's house near the backwaters of Kompong Chhnang or checking on the pottery house could be eye-opening experiences.
The dusty, unpaved roads, however, may leave a bad taste in one's mouth. Another likely obstacle is the isolation of the locals who are only well-versed with their vernacular language.
